On Thursday, April 4th, Spirit of Soccer (SOS) Iraq joined the Dohuk Mine Action Center / IKMAA to celebrate International Mine Awareness Day (#IMAD2019). The event took place in the Kurdistan region which is still highly contaminated by landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW). The SOS Staff was onsite to raise awareness and distributed educational materials to the attendees about the dangers of landmines.
The most noteworthy part of the day was the introduction of three international campaigns to the region, Together Against Mines, Finish the Job by 2025 and raise the #WhiteCard for the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. The event was attended by the Director General of Mine Action in Dohuk, government officials, regional NGOs and the local community.
Spirit of Soccer would like to thank the US Government for their continued support.
